Model of the GBGM's VBC 90 armoured vehicle

As part of our model heritage program, Gaso.line brings you the VBC-90, a highly atypical French Gendarmerie vehicle, rarely (or poorly) reproduced in scale models.

In 1982, the GBGM (Groupement Blinde de la Gendarmerie Mobile) decided to replace its light AMX-13 75mm cannon tanks with a more mobile, less aggressive-looking wheeled vehicle.
To meet this demand, Renault created the VBC-90 (Vehicule Blinde Canon de 90mm), based on the VAB 6X6 with a rear engine.
It is fitted with the GIAT TS 90 turret, armed with a 90mm F4 cannon with numerous optics, quite advanced for its time, which was also used on the Panhard ERC 90 Sagaie.
The VBC-90's armor is designed to protect the crew from small arms fire and shrapnel.
It was mainly used by the French Gendarmerie Nationale, and is also exported to a number of foreign countries.
Its heavy armament also made it useful for control missions in sensitive areas, notably in New Caledonia and Corsica, where it provided a powerful deterrent against violent or armed crowds.
Designed as a versatile tool for the Gendarmerie, it has played a key role in maintaining law and order, both in France and abroad.
VBC-90 units have been sent on UN missions and for operations in Africa.
The GBGM received 32 examples, which served from 1983 to 2004.
In the early 2000s, the Gendarmerie Nationale gradually replaced them with the VBRG (Vehicule Blinde à Roues de la Gendarmerie), better suited to the new missions.

What could be better than a machined metal barrel gun to reproduce the flight of the 90 mm F4 tube?
For unparalleled realism, the grids can only be made using photo-etching, and as you can see from the photos, the result is unrivalled.
Other small parts are also made in photo-etched brass to maintain the model's finesse and solidity.
The wheels are made of plastic and rubber using 3D files from the manufacturer, and as you can see, the tire tread is very precise.
Last but not least, the kit includes a top-of-the-range decal sheet that will give your model a touch of optimal realism once finished.
