Nicolas has done it again
When our customers set out to create vehicles they can’t find as high-end models, they pull off some amazing feats!
To complete a diorama scene featuring a vehicle being reloaded with ammunition, Nicolas needed the French Army’s MHT-X-10180 Heavy Forklift.
Since the CEL wasn’t available as a high-end model to accompany his vehicle, Nicolas decided to create it from documents available online.
Knowing our expertise in crafting custom miniatures, he reached out to us to help him build this model to the high standard he expected.

Positioning: Place the diorama on a flat surface (or on the pile of files you haven't dealt with yet).
Admiration: Wow, it's so realistic! It almost looks like the real thing!
Care:
- Avoid blowing too hard on the figurines (they have the balance of a drunk tightrope walker).
- Clean dust with a soft brush (avoid vacuum cleaners, they're like tornadoes for 2 cm figurines).
- Do not expose to rain or sunlight (so that the water does not evaporate).

Warnings (read carefully... or not)

• This diorama does not cross real rivers (or puddles, for that matter).
• The figurines do not talk, eat, or complain.
• The display case is not an aquarium (even if the river is tempting for your goldfish).
• Promodels does not reimburse divorces caused by a sudden addiction to military modeling.

The French anti-drone shield in miniature version

ARLAD: How the French army neutralizes drones with a VAB

The VAB ARLAD is an EMAT initiative developed by the STAT, Arquus and CS Group for a key anti-drone system for French defense.

In December 2022, the Army Technical Section (STAT) validated the latest firing campaign for the ARLAD system, integrated into an Armored Forward Vehicle (VAB). This project, launched in 2020 in response to an operational emergency, aims to provide ground forces with an effective tool against the growing threat of drones.

The VAB ARLAD combines several technologies:
- A detection radar capable of identifying a mini-drone at a distance of 2,500 meters, similar to that of the MILAD (Joint Anti-Drone System) system.
- A 40 mm grenade launcher using Airburst ammunition. This ammunition generates a blast and a spray of pellets within a 10-meter radius, ideal for countering swarms of drones or highly mobile devices.
- An intelligent firing system, enhanced by the integration of weather parameters and the adaptation of grenade trajectories based on drone behavior.Gradual deployment in the Army
Although a few units were tested in the Sahel in 2021, the VAB ARLAD was not yet operational on a large scale. However, STAT announced that the system is now in series production and has been integrated into the All-Weapons Anti-Aircraft Training Center (LATTA) based in Biscarosse. From CCP10 to C3P10

Evolution of the CCP10 with a CaRaPACE cabin Essonne Securite (better protection for the crew), the C3P10 weighs 26 tons and has a fuel capacity of 10 cubic meters.Like the CaRaPACE, the C3P10 is an all-terrain vehicle and can be equipped with collective weaponry (7.62 mm caliber MAG 58) for external operations.It is capable of refueling four aircraft simultaneously with the distribution system Lafon Technologies for support in air combat operations.

Following on from the design stage, here is the 3D development stage of our model of the Renault GBC 180 truck.Reproducing a vehicle such as the GBC 180, for which no manufacturer files are available, is always a challenge. Each model maker may have a different vision, with their own interpretation. That's why, at Promodels, the design of a 3D file is based on rigorous collaborative work. Every detail is discussed collectively in order to correct any inaccuracies and ensure a faithful and consistent reproduction. The result: a model that is as accurate as it is authentic, the fruit of a shared passion for precision and craftsmanship.

As the TRM 10000 prepares to be replaced by the PPLOG as part of a modernization program, this model immortalizes a configuration that is emblematic of contemporary military history.The TRM 10000 COBRA in 1/87 scale, a faithful and detailed reproduction of an emblematic military vehicle. UROVESA's Vamtac

The Vamtac (Vehículo de Alta Movilidad Táctico) is a 4x4 light armored vehicle developed by UROVESA between 1980 and 1990. It entered service in 1998, and is mainly used by the Spanish Armed Forces. Designed for tactical mobility, the Vamtac stands out for its robustness, modularity and efficiency in difficult terrain. Several versions, including the Vamtac S3 and ST5, have been released, incorporating improvements in ballistic protection and performance. Exported to over ten countries, the Vamtac is an internationally recognized light military vehicle.

High-precision models for professionals

No, it's not the real thing, but a Promodels 1/24 scale model measuring just 12 cm!A small, rustic, highly mobile, air-transportable, air-droppable, heliportable vehicle with high projection and transport capacity.
Its missions: to lighten the load of disembarked combatants, to assist rapid deployment after airdrop or assault landing, and to carry out reconnaissance missions.

The FARDIER system from UNAC

The Fardier, also known as the “Rider” (Rapide Intervention Droppable Equipment for Raiders), meets the requirements of the airborne troops of the 11th parachute brigade and French special forces. Designed to quickly grasp the terrain, it facilitates logistical movements and provides support and command in areas inaccessible to conventional vehicles (except in heavily snow-covered areas). The system also reinforces the self-defense of deployment zones and enables rapid air deployment, despite its limited range. According to the 2019-2025 military programming law, 300 vehicles will be delivered by 2030 for the 11th parachute brigade and the Special Operations Command.
The passenger compartment is protected by a folding roll-bar system, mounted on a welded steel tubular chassis. A “ski” (actually protective plates) protects the vehicle's undercarriage, enabling it to hit hard off-road, but offering no protection against mines or IEDs. The vehicle can be fitted with two FN Minimi or MAG light machine guns.The turning radius is very tight, making it easy to get around in difficult environments, especially wooded ones. This quality is further enhanced by the independent locking of each wheel and the engine braking system, which even makes it possible to negotiate steps!
Generally speaking, the load/size ratio is extremely flattering: the 1,000 kg machine can carry a load of 900 kg, almost double its unladen weight. The 200 kg trailer can carry a load of 350 kg.
RIDER, which “has no electronics, making it quick and easy to repair in the event of breakdown during operation”.

The TRM 10000, a legendary truck

The TRM 10000 is a 6x6 tactical military truck designed by Renault Vehicules Industriels (RVI) in the 1980s to meet the French army's all-terrain logistics transport requirements. It was adopted in 1984 to replace the Berliet GBU-TBU and could be used as the basis for several variants, such as the artillery tractor for the TRF 1 gun or the heavy recovery truck (CLD).
Designed for extreme conditions and difficult terrain, it was developed in many different versions, making it an essential vehicle for the French Army.
Although it is gradually being withdrawn from service and replaced by more modern models such as the military Renault Kerax, it remains an emblematic vehicle in the TRM range.
Despite its high fuel consumption and limited comfort over long distances, it is highly appreciated for its reliability and off-road capability, as well as for its versatility in a wide range of military applications.
This truck was a key element in French military logistics for several decades, marking the history of army tactical vehicles.

AT Eurosatory 2024, Arquus presented the MAV'Rx, a 4x4 armored vehicle designed for high-intensity missions, offering protection, mobility and modularity with a carrying capacity of 10 soldiers. It can integrate advanced weapons systems, such as medium-caliber turrets. Arquus also unveiled the Drailer, its first multi-purpose ground robot, remotely operable up to 2 km, designed for troop support and a variety of specialized missions, with a maximum payload of 700 kg. These innovations illustrate Arquus' commitment to modern, modular defense solutions.

A model of our heritage

As part of our model heritage program, Gaso.line brings you the VBC-90, a highly atypical French Gendarmerie vehicle, rarely (or poorly) reproduced in scale models.

The armored vehicle of the French National Gendarmerie's mobile armored unit

In 1982, the GBGM (Groupement Blinde de la Gendarmerie Mobile) decided to replace its light AMX-13 75mm cannon tanks with a more mobile, less aggressive-looking wheeled vehicle.
To meet this demand, Renault created the VBC-90 (Vehicule Blinde Canon de 90mm), based on the VAB 6X6 with a rear engine.
It is fitted with the GIAT TS 90 turret, armed with a 90mm F4 cannon with numerous optics, quite advanced for its time, which was also used on the Panhard ERC 90 Sagaie.
The VBC-90's armor is designed to protect the crew from small arms fire and shrapnel.
It was mainly used by the French Gendarmerie Nationale, and is also exported to a number of foreign countries.
Its heavy armament also made it useful for control missions in sensitive areas, notably in New Caledonia and Corsica, where it provided a powerful deterrent against violent or armed crowds.
Designed as a versatile tool for the Gendarmerie, it has played a key role in maintaining law and order, both in France and abroad.
VBC-90 units have been sent on UN missions and for operations in Africa.
The GBGM received 32 examples, which served from 1983 to 2004.
In the early 2000s, the Gendarmerie Nationale gradually replaced them with the VBRG (Vehicule Blinde à Roues de la Gendarmerie), better suited to the new missions.

The XLR model of the Leclerc tank is the modernized version of the French "Scorpion" program, designed to network with other vehicles such as the Griffon and Jaguar.

Jaguar amaranth program CaMo

CaMo is the renewal program for the Belgian Army's Motorized Capability, in agreement with France for unprecedented cooperation on the Scorpion program. This includes the purchase of common equipment and the implementation of joint training to achieve full interoperability of capabilities between the French and Belgian units of the Motorized Brigade. Belgium will acquire 382 Griffon vehicles and 60 Jaguars, all of which will be info-energized and delivered to the 1st/3rd Lancer Battalion from 2025 onwards.CaMo is het vernieuwingsprogramma voor de gemotoriseerde capaciteit van het Belgische leger, in overeenstemming met Frankrijk voor een ongekende samenwerking rond het Scorpion-programma. The AMX 13 light tank family

Between 1953 and 1985, 7,700 French AMX-13 light tanks were produced, of which 3,400 were exported to 35 countries.
The basis of this tank was used to produce many variants of the self-propelled gun troop transport.
Development began in 1946, was largely financed by the USA and lasted until 1955 at the Ateliers de Construction d'Issy-les-MoulineauX (AMX), ending in 1985.
The number 13 originally denoted the tank's weight in tons.
The tank's first operational deployment was during Operation Musketeer in Suez in 1956, and it was subsequently sent to Algeria.

Decoration of 2nd REC Port Fouad Suez 1956The FL 10 oscillating turret was armed with the excellent SA 50 75 mm semi-automatic gun with a muzzle velocity of 1,000 m/s, itself derived from the WW2 Panther gun.
The feed was equipped with an original system of two rotating barrels with a capacity of six shells, which "saved" the use of the magazine, but required the gun to be turned back once the 12 shells had been fired.

AMX 13 105mm self-propelled gun

Developed in 1949 but not put into service until 1955, this self-propelled gun version was fitted with the first modern 105 mm gun developed in Western countries since the Second World War, and offered total protection for the crew.

AMX 13 M 54 recovery vehicle

Designed to recover immobilized armored equipment, this crane is also suitable for handling operations such as lifting engines and turrets.

In order to optimize US equipment that had reached the end of its useful life, the M24 Chaffee turrets, and above all their gun and ammunition, were adapted to the excellent AMX 13 chassis.
These vehicles were deployed in Algeria until 1962, when they were dismantled and used as training vehicles.

Following a request from Indochina for a light tank adapted to an Asian environment, it was decided to adapt the turret of the Panhard 75 mm EBR to lighten its weight and shorten its size for air transport requirements.
The end of the Indochina war meant that only 5 examples were built and put into service with the 2nd R.E.C. at Oujda (Morocco). In 1956, these aircraft were sold to Morocco following the country's independence.

In the AMX 13 VTT family, the latest versions, known as Véhicule de Combat d'Infanterie, were armed with a turret equipped with a 20mm rapid-fire gun, the T20-13 or Toucan I.

The VCG version could carry a squad of 10 crew to carry out earthmoving, lifting, clearing and destruction missions, thanks to the vehicle's specialized equipment.
The tank is equipped with a dozer blade, a detachable crane and 2 hydraulic winches controlled from inside the vehicle, as well as specialized pioneer tools.

Promodels at the forefront of French Army news

No sooner had the July 14th parade ended with the presentation of the latest Army camouflage, CAMTAC, than Promodels launched a very limited special edition of the Griffon with these new camouflages.

Tac tical Cam ouflage (CAMTAC)

Your mock-ups don't attract attention! We have solutionsAs the 3-tone Centre-Europe camouflage with its different shades and colors had outlived its usefulness, and as black was very bad for thermal detection, for example, a new solution had to be found!
The new "terre de France" brown tint for Army vehicles is the result of feedback reports from various operationals expenditure, which required our vehicles to be completely repainted, depending on the theater of operation.
Naturally, it's unthinkable to have the vehicles we need in every possible camouflage, so the solution of a basic "all-purpose" tint compatible with the 3 main camouflages was the obvious one!

An integral part of the Scorpion program, this new camouflage is, along with the "terre de France" brown, Army new imprint for its front-line armored vehicles.
The new pattern, designed to improve stealth and concealment, is made up of different self-adhesive triangles which can be assembled together to form geometric patterns, easily removable for quick replacement by one of the other seasonal camouflages.
The Europe camouflage should be applied ex-factory, enabling rapid changeover thanks to the triangles kits supplied for each vehicle, which simply need to be positioned on the existing triangles, especially as each vehicle will have a specific pattern.
To complete the system, a new Barracuda-type multispectral camouflage net (yet to be determined) should replace the existing ECR bag net.

Model of the Griffon VBMR

A lot of hard work, but the result is worth it!Thanks to almost 30 years' know-how, Promodels has studied the best solution for reproducing this very specific and precise type of camouflage, which requires no approximation.
Laid out one by one, this work requires particular attention to each geometric set, and as you can see, despite the size of our models, the result is very convincing.

All that remains is to include our different models in a diorama adapted to each camouflage to test the stealth and transform these high-end models into exceptional models.
This will soon be possible with our new range of prestige models.

CaRaPACE, an armoured tanker for hostile zones

The CaRaPACE (Camion Ravitailleur Petrolier de l'Avant a Capacite Etendue) is an armoured truck produced by Scania that tows a 22 m3 Maisonneuve tank trailer.
One of the special features of this vehicle is that it has a level 2B armoured cab produced by Essonne Sécurite, making it the first French oil tanker capable of operating in hostile areas.
The CaRaPACE was successfully deployed for the first time in Mali as part of Operation Barkhane in 2018 and saved the lives of its crew when an IED exploded in January 2020, the armoured cab having acted as protection.
The SEO ordered 34 examples of this vehicle and, following various feedback from Mali, requested a number of modifications, which were carried out on the '2' generation of this vehicle, which is the subject of this article.

Even with an image larger than the actual size of the model, the quality is still impressive.As with the first version of this model, Promodels has gone to great lengths to reproduce all the details for which our products are renowned.
The main visual modification to the model is the change of wheels with tyres better suited to sandy terrain.
The change of wheels means that the mudguards have been removed, and we've put a lot of effort into fine-tuning the details of the centralised inflation system, which remains an interesting and very rare challenge on a model, especially at this scale.

The successor to the Gendarmerie's wheeled armoured vehicle (VBRG) is now known. It is the "ARIVE" (for ARmoured Infanty VEhicle), a 4x4 armoured vehicle produced by Soframe. 90 units have been ordered. The first delivery is expected in 2023. In the ranks of the gendarmerie, it will be known as the Centaure!

AMX 30 B2 in high-end model

AMX, initials known to everyone but many do not know their origin.Here is a short explanation of the text illustrated with models because creating miniatures also means being interested in the subjects on which we work and history is an integral part of our corporate culture.AMX is the contraction of the name of the Issy-les-MoulineauX construction workshops which were born at the end of 1936 from the nationalization of a Renault Factory workshop created in 1917 for the construction of FT-17 tanks. He was responsible for the study and production of prototypes of armored vehicles.The factory saw Renault tanks from 1914 and those from 1940 pass through. Many projects were developed just before the war and a first concrete achievement was the running gear of the Renault R40 tank which took part in the French campaign in 1940.In 1949, the prototype of the AMX-13 was created, production began in Roanne in 1952 and in 1967, it was the turn of the AMX-30.

AMX 30 B2 tankThe AMX 30 upgrade program was adopted in June 1979 and was truly necessary given the technological developments from which combat tanks have benefited. The first production AMX 30 B2s were received by the 503rd R.C.C. in January 1982 and underwent an accelerated aging program to detect possible youthful illnesses.
In 1991 the 4th Dragoon Regiment deployed around forty AMX 30 B2 tanks within the “Daguet” Division.

January 20, 1981, Acmat wins the Paris Dakar with his VLRA

1981 saw the 3rd start of the Paris Dakar, with two VLRA 4x4 Acmat trucks taking part.
The crews were made up of military personnel from the French civil security service.
Despite the robustness of the vehicles, one of them was forced to abandon, while the other continued its race, helping other competitors in difficulty.
Behaving remarkably well, the VLRA suffered only one puncture and one radiator leak during the entire rally.
For Acmat, it's a great way of demonstrating the vehicle's excellent durability.

The only deviation from the heritage model we allowed ourselves was to modify the number 302 on the tarpaulin, very characteristic with its different-sized figures, which is less realistic than the photos of the period model.

From ALM, ACMAT to Arquus

With a particularly ingenious design, some vehicles become timeless. This is the case with the VLRA [Light reconnaissance and support vehicle], designed in the 1960s by Ateliers Legueu Meaux [ALM], then produced by ACMAT, since absorbed by ARQUUS [formerly Renault Trucks Defense].
In 1966, Paul Legueu moved his father's business to Saint-Nazaire and created the Ateliers de Construction Mécanique de l'Atlantique (ACMAT). It transforms VCOMs (Overseas Combat Vehicles) into VLRA (Reconnaissance and Support Liaison Vehicles), vehicles particularly suited to the needs of overseas troops, special forces and young armies from decolonization.

Operational Energy Service (SEO)

Formerly the Service des Essences des Armées (SEA), the SEO is a joint service responsible for supplying all the armed forces.
It is a joint service of the French Army, reporting to the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces.
The SEO is responsible for the supply, storage, distribution and quality of fuels and lubricants for the land vehicles, aircraft and ships of the French armed forces and the Gendarmerie Nationale.

For many years, this French company has been supplying tactical military refuelers and oleoservers that support the forces at our air bases in France and on overseas operations.The MORE-RR5 tanker, or CCA5 in the SEO version, is a compact vehicle ideally suited to on-base or operational pistol refueling. Its modular design and unrivalled ergonomics make it a refueling vehicle perfectly suited to the needs of military bases. With its 4 x 4 chassis, the refueler gains in mobility.
The CCA5 is more suited to airbases, and with its 5000l capacity, to small aircraft or helicopters.
If need be, it can also be deployed on OPEX operations.
We won't mention the Renault Trucks cab and chassis in this article, as it would take several volumes to cover the subject of our national manufacturer.

The Renault TRM 700-100 (All-wheel-drive, 700hp, 100t) tank transporter has been developed for transporting heavy equipment, in particular the Leclerc tank.
It is based on the TRM 10000, the French Army's heavy tactical logistics truck.
It differs from this version in that it has a reinforced chassis and transmission, a more powerful engine, a more spacious five-seat cab and twin rear wheels.

The AML Panhard of the EFAO armoured platoon

Maintaining the French Elements of Operational Assistance (EFAO) in operational condition in Africa.
The EFAO are an episode in the long history linking France to the Central African Republic.
They were deployed from 1979 to 1998.
Armored resources are essentially made up of a platoon of AMLs, located on an independent site in the center of the capital.

African-style MCO

AMLs are not new, but as the only armored reserve, they benefit from unfailing support.
In addition, their almost daily use requires regular maintenance by the crews, which contributes to a high availability rate.
Their hardiness is well suited to a demanding environment, characterized by, among other things, often rudimentary communication routes, sometimes very high temperatures (you can cook an egg on AML armor!), above-average humidity and laterite dust that creeps in everywhere.

Here's an overview of some of the reconnaissance vehicles used from the beginnings of mechanization to the present day.
While reconnaissance aims to gather information on the enemy, armored reconnaissance adds the combat capability to engage the enemy and force him to react, thus revealing his defensive system and combat power.
Our aim is not to "discuss" the functions and characteristics of the various machines - others can do that much better than we can - but to present these vehicles on the same stage, which would be very difficult to bring together other than in scale models.

"Never again! ". According to oral tradition, this is what Colonel de Gaulle said when he had to halt the advance of his armored vehicles at the battle of Montcornet, due to a lack of fuel, while a few kilometers away a full train of gasoline chartered by the Service des poudres was waiting to be distributed by the Services de l'artillerie.
This problem was solved "in the nick of time", as on November 25, 1940 (under the Vichy regime) all responsibilities were entrusted to a single organization.
This new department was given the name Service des Essences des Armées (SEA), a name it would bear until September 2020, when it became the Service de l'Energie Opérationnelle (SEO).
The SEO is a joint service of the French Army, reporting to the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces.

The Renault D2 tank

The Renault "Char D2", developed in 1931, is the successor to the Renault D1 medium tank. The D2 is taller, more massive and features a new turret.
It was adopted by the French Army in 1933, and 100 examples were built in 2 series. The D2 is armed with a 47 SA turret with up to 40 mm of armor, and weighs 20 tons.

A bit of ATS history

It was during the First World War, with the widespread use of mechanized means, that the need arose to set up a new "fuel" supply chain. This consisted of the quartermaster's department, which supplied and stored fuel, and the automotive department, which transported it. At the same time, a gasoline, petroleum and oil department was set up at headquarters. After the war, on July 12 1920, the powder department took over from the quartermaster's office, with the artillery acting as distributor.

A diorama of the Panhard EBR to illustrate the 1st REC's raid in Africa from January to March 1958.
In October 1957, the 1st Régiment Etranger de Cavalerie, based in Constantine, received its first EBRs, replacing the aging AM M 8 and AM M 20.
The arrival of the EBR gave the regimental staff the opportunity to "mark the occasion" by mounting an out-of-the-ordinary operation in the form of a 6,000 km round-trip raid, from the northern coast of Algeria to the Niger border in the south.

The model comes from our Gaso.line range, with several modifications and improvements made by Thomas Seignon to accurately represent the specific features of this raid's machines.
Our models can be used as high-end promotional miniatures, gifts, educational objects, but also to tell the story of a brand or the story of a company!
Our work doesn't simply consist of reproducing an object, because before working on a new project, we try to understand the reason for its use and its history, so that we can understand our subject and all its details and reproduce them in the best possible way.

The 1st REC Panhard RBE raid in southern Algeria

Under the orders of Squadron Leader DOROT, the affair was carefully prepared. 6 EBRs were specially conditioned for the raid, with reinforced suspensions, sets of four crossing plates per vehicle, increased drinking water capacity, and integral tires for 3 of the vehicles. A Dodge protection section was also part of the trip, as was a technical support team on Berliet "Gazelle" and GLR 8 vehicles. Most of the technical support is provided by "regular" soldiers, including conscripts from the contingent. In all, some one hundred people are involved in this adventure.

All periods, all nationalities

As part of our production of miniatures and models, we are called upon to produce vehicles of all nationalities and all periods.
Naturally, we have a big soft spot for French models but we are happy to offer the evolution from the beginnings of military mechanization to the present day.
Technically, it gives us as much interest in designing a armored car 1914 as a EBRC 2020 (Reconnaissance and Combat Armored Vehicle).

About a hundred « armored Renault » were ordered in 1914 and it was the first large-scale auto-machine gun of the French army. The experience of the combat quickly shows the insufficiency of the 5 mm armor which does not withstand German S bullets. This problem is quickly resolved with the adoption of armor from Saint-Chamond and by the increase in the thickness of the 5.5mm shielding.
The Auto-Machine Gun versions are used for close protection of 47 mm cannon autos, also mounted on Renault ED. Renault type ED is armed with an 8 mm St Etienne machine gun on an anti-aircraft chassis. Mainly painted in artillery gray, some very original camouflages made their appearance.
